A message to the USA. 17 September 2015.

From the book of Obadiah

Today, I opened the book of Obadiah and as I started reading, images of the USA started flooding my mind.

The 2 passages that stood out were verses 3 to 4:

The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord.

The symbolism of the stars on the flag,  as well as the eagle is clear.

The next passage that jumped out was verses 10 to 12. From this I understand that the reason for judgement against the USA is the fact that they started out as ‘brothers’ of Jacob (i.e. Israel) but they will betray Israel with a peace treaty.

Because of the violence against your brother Jacob,
    you will be covered with shame;
    you will be destroyed forever.
On the day you stood aloof
while strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
    and cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
You should not gloat over your brother
in the day of his misfortune,
nor rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their destruction,
nor boast so much
in the day of their trouble. (This refers to the tibulation i.e. Jacob’s trouble)

Fortunately the Bible tells us that at the end God will rescue Israel out of this great tribulation

“How awful that day will be! No other will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.” Jeremiah 30:7.
